Our Ladies team had their second game of the season today and their first game at home.

We’re pleased to say that they made a winning start at home with a 4-1 win over Tamworth Ladies first team. A lot of lessons learnt from our ladies season opener at Aldersley Stadium last weekend against WATTs Ladies second team, a hard fought battle throughout the match ending in us conceding late on in the game and loosing 1-2 away.

Spirits were high for our first home game with new and returning faces joining the ladies team, bringing with them some quality hockey. One of those new faces Danielle had a fantastic game in defence and Caroline bossing the midfield with a player of the match winning performance.

As a team we started slow in the first half, but managed to get ourself a ahead with an awesome goal from the super Fran, running practically the length of the pitch and taking on the entire defence, before cooling slotting the ball past the keeper to score.

Tamworth equalised shortly after and both teams having chances to get ahead, but both strong defences remained calm and keeping out each other’s attacks.

Second half, straight out the blocks and with two classic poachers goals from Jobeth, she got us in front in quick succession to lead 3-1. You’ve got to be in the right place at the right time to get those gritty goals and Jobeth was there each time, ahead of the defence to get us back in front.

This gave us some breathing space and we really took control of the game from their on out. Our 2 goal cushion calmed everyone down instantly, we began to play freely and making some fantastic short sharp passes to keep hold of the ball. It wasn’t all plain sailing, with Tamworth still creating chances, but With Fee, Helen and Mel at the back, they made some awesome tackles and not to mention some great saves from Sharon.

Eventually the fourth goal came from a great move which ended in a short corner. Fran stepped up to strike from the top of the D and put the ball into the corner.

Though game but with a bit of patience we got our rewards, the win moves us to 5th in the table and we take in the undefeated Stone ladies away next Saturday 6th October.
